Join the latest GrassrootsHealth, Nutrient*action project to learn more about the relationship between essential nutrients and how our immune system responds to diseases such as COVID-19. Introducing the

What is the project goal?

The goal of the Immune Boost Project is to ensure all participants achieve a minimum vitamin D level of 40-60 ng/ml (100-150 nmol/L) as recommended by the GrassrootsHealth Scientists’ Panel, as rapidly and safely as possible. Additional tracking and/or optional measurements for other nutrients, such as magnesium, omega-3s, and essential elements (including zinc and selenium) will help participants better understand the nutrient ‘balance’ that could be best for them and for an efficient immune response. Questionnaire data and test results will also be used to help identify potential relationships between nutrient levels and intake, and COVID-19 infection, severity, and outcome.

Why does this matter?

We have discussed the important role of nutrients for immune function as well as given a background on how the immune system relies on different nutrients for optimal function. In order to have the most optimized immune response, it is essential to pay attention to your nutrient status.

Who can participate?

This project is open to everyone! Enroll now with the Full Immune Boost Panel (which includes tests for vitamin D, Omega-3 Index, magnesium, zinc, selenium, copper, and hsCRP), and get 10% off when you use coupon code BoostTen at checkout.

What is involved in participating?

STEP 1 – Enroll in the project OR Log in to your account, begin your next questionnaire, and click to opt-in to the Immune Boost project (this question is on page 3 of the questionnaire)

STEP 2 – Order your Immune Boost Test Kit
Select your choice of nutrients and markers to test and track.

Vitamin D – Required
Omega-3 Index – Strongly Suggested, essential measure for proper inflammatory processes
Magnesium (Whole Blood) – Strongly Suggested, essential co-nutrient to vitamin D
Elements Panel (with selenium, zinc, others) – Suggested, important to immune function
High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP) – Suggested, important marker for current levels of inflammation, which may hinder proper immune response

Order the Full Immune Boost Panel with all suggested tests and receive 10% off, or customize your kit with the Custom Immune Boost Test Kit builder.

STEP 3 – Complete your questionnaire
Provide essential health data to help track and analyze the relationship between your nutrient status with health outcomes and nutrient intake. This project includes several new question sections:

Recent Symptoms Section: this section will ask if you have had any COVID-19 related symptoms or received any new test results, and is completed once on enrollment followed by once weekly. If symptoms are present, symptoms questions are answered on a daily basis until gone.

Perceived Stress Scale Questions: this section asks 10 quick questions to get a better understanding of how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting your lifestyle and mental health. It is completed once on enrollment followed by once monthly.

Additional Nutrient Tracking: the supplement section of the questionnaire will ask about other nutrients you take on a regular basis that may play a role in your immune response. Reviewing the supplement labels and entering information from the labels is required. These questions are only asked on enrollment and again with each set of tests.

Keep in mind that these additional questions may add 5-25 minutes to the time of your questionnaire (depending in part on how many supplements you are taking) and will require your supplements to be on hand or labels to be available. We very much appreciate the time and effort each of our participants puts into getting us the most complete and accurate data possible!

STEP 4 – Complete Your Home Blood Spot Test Kit
Mail your completed blood spot card(s) in with your Participant ID; be sure your online health questionnaire has been completed so there is no delay in test results.

STEP 5 – Adjust as necessary to reach your target
If your vitamin D level is below the 40-60 ng/ml (100-150 nmol/L) recommended range, use the D*calculator to calculate the dose of vitamin D that can help you reach your target level, with an optional loading dose to help you reach your level faster.

STEP 6 – Re-test based on your supplementation strategy
Re-test your levels after 1 month if you chose to use a loading dose or 3-6 months with a maintenance dose only.

Are You Getting Enough Vitamin D to Help Yourself?

We’re in a time of great crisis that could be greatly affected by making sure you and everyone you know has a serum level of at least 40 ng/ml. Help us help you.

Do you know what your vitamin D level is? Be sure to test today to find out, and take steps to keep it within a target of 40-60 ng/ml or 100-150 nmol/L! Give your immune system the nutrients it needs to support a healthy you and protect yourself from unnecessary diseases, especially COVID-19.

GrassrootsHealth Nutrient Research Institute has launched the new Immune Boost project with the use of our myData-myAnswers nutrient health system that over 15,000 people are already using for their health. Specific markers that influence immune health are suggested for testing as part of this project including:

  • Vitamin D
  • Omega-3 Index
  • Essential elements magnesium, selenium, and zinc
  • hsCRP

We hope to demonstrate how one can use the Nutrient Research Model established by Dr. Robert Heaney to establish the effect of vitamin D serum levels of at least 40 ng/ml (100 nmol/L) on risk reduction with different ethnicities in the population. Status and intake of other nutrients will also be analyzed for any type of relationship to immune status and symptom severity. Please let us know if you’re interested in helping sponsor this project.

Through GrassrootsHealth Nutrient Research Institute, you can also test your essential elements magnesium, copper, zinc and selenium, toxins such as lead, mercury and cadmium, as well as your omega-3 levels, inflammation levels and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level. Find out your levels today! Log on to the test selection page (click the link below) to get your tests and see for yourself if your levels can be improved.

Make sure you track your results before and after, about every 6 months!

How can I track my nutrient intake and levels over time?

To help you track your supplement use and nutrient levels, GrassrootsHealth has created the Personal Health Nutrient Decision System called

For each specific supplement, you can track what days you take it, how much, and many other details.  This will help you know your true supplemental intake and what patterns of use work for you to reach and maintain optimum nutrient levels. Check it out today!

How Can You Use this Information for YOUR Health?

Having and maintaining healthy vitamin D and other nutrient levels can help improve your health now and for your future. Measuring is the only way to make sure you are getting enough!

STEP 1 Order your at-home blood spot test kit to measure vitamin D and other nutrients of concern to you, such as omega-3s, magnesium, essential and toxic elements (zinc, copper, selenium, lead, cadmium, mercury); include hsCRP as a marker of inflammation or HbA1c for blood sugar health

STEP 2 Answer the online questionnaire as part of the GrassrootsHealth study

STEP 3 Using our educational materials and tools (such as our dose calculators), assess your results to determine if you are in your desired target range or if actions should be taken to get there

STEP 4 After 3-6 months of implementing your changes, re-test to see if you have achieved your target level(s)
