If you don’t know your vitamin D level, you may be at risk! Join the Immune Boost Project TODAY…
Take Action NOW!
Support Your Immune System to Protect Good Health
One of the primary reasons for the current issue with the Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic is that so many people do not have a healthy enough immune response to protect them when they get exposed to the virus. GrassrootsHealth and other researchers have demonstrated a greatly reduced risk of many unhealthy conditions when vitamin D status is at least 40-60 ng/ml (100-150 nmol/L) and the Omega-3 Index is at least 8%. We want everyone to be ‘exposed’ to this information and to know that they can take action to help themselves be healthy—NOW!
Your nutritional status plays a central role in how your body functions and responds to daily lifestyle and environmental factors. Vitamins and minerals play integral roles in all body functions and are integral to your health.
A nutrient deficiency can contribute to an increased risk for:
- Cardiovascular Diseases
- Autoimmune Diseases
- Mental/Emotional Disorders
And so much more…
Nutrient Deficiencies are a Major Health Concern!
- Up to 75% of the world is vitamin D deficient; 35% or more of all healthcare costs could be saved if the population achieved the 40-60 ng/ml (100-150 nmol/L) recommended range
- More than 80% are deficient in omega-3 fatty acids (below the recommended 8%)
- Over 45% of the US population are very likely deficient in magnesium
- And that’s not all… 46% of us do not get enough Vitamin C, 35% have inadequate vitamin A intakes, a whopping 84% do not get enough Vitamin E and 15% are inadequate for zinc, all of which are necessary for a healthy immune response
Avoid Deficiency – Enroll in the GrassrootsHealth Nutrient Research Immune Boost Project and Test Today
Testing your nutrient status is easy and can be done from the comfort of your own home with a blood spot test kit. Testing is the only way to know what your levels are and with GrassrootsHealth you will be able to compare your data with that of 1000’s of others who have also been tested. Armed with your results and how they relate to body function, you will be better informed to make personal health decisions based on scientific information.
WHAT IS THE PROJECT GOAL?
To ensure all participants achieve a minimum vitamin D level of 40-60 ng/ml (100-150 nmol/L) as recommended by the GrassrootsHealth Scientists’ Panel, as rapidly and safely as possible. Additional tracking and/or optional measurements for other nutrients, such as magnesium, omega-3s, calcium, vitamin C, and vitamin K2, will help participants understand the nutrient ‘balance’ that could be best for each individual.
WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
Vitamin D is necessary for healthy immune function, especially in response to infection (such as COVID-19), and many other health outcomes, which will be tracked as part of the project. Vitamins and minerals interact with each other, for example magnesium is needed to activate vitamin D, and they play complimentary roles in how the immune system functions. That is why it is important to be aware of what nutrients you may not be getting enough of.
Few individuals are aware of their vitamin D status and many are deficient. Offering an easy home test and feedback will allow individuals to become informed of their vitamin D status and any existing deficiency that may need to be corrected, thus providing reason and incentive to make necessary adjustments. Currently, there is no way to tell a person’s vitamin D level without administering a blood test. Even if a person is taking vitamin D supplements, there is a 3-fold or more variation in the resulting vitamin D serum concentration (measured as 25(OH)D) – similar variation exists with other nutrients important to immune system health, such as omega-3 fatty acids and magnesium, for which home tests are also available.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
This project is open to everyone!
What is Involved in Participating?
STEP 1 – Enroll in the project [insert Welcome Page URL] OR Log in to your account, begin your next questionnaire, and click to opt-in to the Immune Boost project (this question is on page 3 of the questionnaire)
STEP 2 – Order your Immune Boost Test Kit
Select your choice of nutrients to test and track
- Vitamin D – Required
- Omega-3 Index – Strongly Suggested, essential measure for proper inflammatory processes
- Magnesium (Whole Blood) – Strongly Suggested, essential co-nutrient to vitamin D
- Elements Panel (with selenium, zinc, others) – Suggested, important to immune function
- High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP) – Suggested, important marker for current levels of inflammation, which may hinder proper immune response
STEP 3 – Complete your questionnaire
Provide essential health data to help track and analyze the relationship between your nutrient status with health outcomes and nutrient intake
STEP 4 – Complete Your Home Blood Spot Test Kit
Mail your completed blood spot card(s) in with your Participant ID; be sure your online health questionnaire has been completed so there is no delay in test results!
STEP 5 – Adjust as necessary to reach your target
If your vitamin D level is below the 40-60 ng/ml (100-150 nmol/L) recommended range, use the D*calculator to calculate the dose of vitamin D that can help you reach your target level.
- Choose the loading dose to reach your level faster!
STEP 6 – Re-test based on your supplementation strategy
Re-test your levels at 1 month if you chose to use a loading dose or 3-6 months with a maintenance dose only

Vitamin D & Immunity: Supporting Evidence
FACT 1. Vitamin D, the hormone produced in the skin upon exposure to UVB from sunlight, plays a critical role in immune system function and in the regulation of inflammation, including in the lungs. Deficiency in vitamin D results in a less effective immune response.
FACT 2. Case reports of COVID-19 have demonstrated a much higher risk of COVID-19 severity and mortality among those with low vitamin D levels (less than 30 ng/mL). The association is clear in the chart below.
FACT 3. Vitamin D deficiency itself is a world-wide pandemic. According to NHANES data, almost 90% of U.S. adults have a vitamin D level below the recommended range of 40-60 ng/ml.
FACT 4. Due to a statistical error that has not been corrected, the current recommended daily allowance (RDA) for vitamin D intake of 600 IU per day, from all sources, is roughly 10 times too low.
FACT 5. Individual response to supplementation with vitamin D varies by several factors, making supplementation without testing a gamble. Among 5,442 GrassrootsHealth participants who completed at least two vitamin D tests, approximately half (51%) achieved 40 ng/ml on their first test compared to two-thirds (67%) on their second test – leaving 1/3 of those who re-tested still below the 40 ng/ml target level.
