The D*action questionnaire is now optional, yet strongly recommended and appreciated; learn what other options are available to you

At GrassrootsHealth, your participation drives our mission of advancing vitamin D advocacy and education. Over the years, our D*action study has provided invaluable data, helping us analyze and publish findings that make a difference, including:

Published papers such as

Breast cancer risk markedly lower with serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations ≥ 60 vs < 20 ng/ml (150 vs 50 nmol/L): Pooled analysis of two randomized trials and a prospective cohort

Vitamin D Supplement Doses and Serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D in the Range Associated with Cancer Prevention

Cross-sectional study of the combined associations of dietary and supplemental eicosapentaenoic acid + docosahexaenoic acid on Omega-3 Index

Posters such as

Incidence Rate of Type 2 Diabetes

And many blogs such as

Do vitamin D, omega-3, and vitamin C have a combined effect on colds and the flu among GrassrootsHealth participants?

Over 50% of Participants Did Not Accurately Estimate Their Daily Vitamin D Intake

While we see the data you provide along with your vitamin D and other tests as invaluable, we’ve heard your feedback about the length and detail of our questionnaire, which has sometimes made it challenging to continue participating. We’re happy to share a new update designed with you in mind: the questionnaire is now optional.

Your Questionnaire is Optional, But Your Data is Still Very Much Appreciated!

What This Means for You

  • Result Data Still Matters: We are still collecting and analyzing test results to further our research.
  • Flexible Participation: While we encourage completing the questionnaire to enhance the study, it is no longer required for your test results to be processed.
  • Shortened Questionnaire Available: If you prefer to fill out a shorter version, just let us know! You can request a special link to access it alongside your blood spot test.
  • Notes to Your Account: Do you want to provide specific notes or pieces of information based on the questionnaire?  Email us and let us know so that we can make note of it in your account.

Exceptions for Specific Projects

Please note that for certain studies—like the Type 1 Diabetes Prevention and Breast Cancer Prevention projects—full questionnaire completion may still be required, particularly for sponsored participants.

We deeply appreciate your time, dedication, and contribution to our research. Your participation helps shape the future of vitamin D in public health.

Thank you for being an essential part of our community!

How Can You Use this Information for YOUR Health?

Having and maintaining healthy vitamin D and other nutrient levels can help improve your health now and for your future. Measuring is the only way to make sure you are getting enough!

STEP 1 Order your at-home blood spot test kit to measure vitamin D and other nutrients of concern to you, such as omega-3s, magnesium, essential and toxic elements (zinc, copper, selenium, lead, cadmium, mercury); include hsCRP as a marker of inflammation or HbA1c for blood sugar health

STEP 2 Answer the online questionnaire as part of the GrassrootsHealth study

STEP 3 Using our educational materials and tools (such as our dose calculators), assess your results to determine if you are in your desired target range or if actions should be taken to get there

STEP 4 After 3-6 months of implementing your changes, re-test to see if you have achieved your target level(s)
