Video Friday: Dr. Eric Berg DC describes what the first signs of COVID-19 are and steps to take to immediately support your immune response
It’s Video Friday! Today’s video contains information about the symptoms most people have experienced at the onset of a COVID-19 infection, followed by steps to take at the first sign of any of those symptoms. Taking such immediate action can help boost the immune response and may decrease the duration and severity of symptoms – for COVID as well as many other pathogenic infections.

What do most people experience at the onset of COVID-19, and what steps can be taken immediately?
Here is a quick summary of what this video discusses, along with additional information and details about vitamin D:
- The most commonly experienced symptoms at the onset of a COVID-19 infection were listed as fatigue (82%), headache (72%), fever (40%), loss of smell, persistent cough, and sore throat
- Symptoms are a result of the immune response, often caused by the release of cytokines. Cytokines are pro-inflammatory chemicals that our immune cells release to destroy pathogens, such as a virus. This is a necessary step in the immune system response, however, without the proper nutritional support, it can result in excessive inflammation or a cytokine storm.
- Steps can be taken to support the immune system response, leading to a potential decrease in duration of the immune cycle, decreased recovery time, and fewer symptoms with less severity (aka, less collateral damage)
- Serious complications of COVID-19 have been linked to metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors that occur together and increase your risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes – all known to also increase the risk of complications and death due to COVID-19.
- Several studies have shown a direct link between vitamin D and COVID-19 disease severity and outcomes. Vitamin D is necessary for its roles in reducing inflammation and supporting specific immune cells. We know that the recommended 600 IU/day of vitamin D is not enough; larger doses may be necessary to quickly boost vitamin D levels and allow proper support to the immune reaction against COVID-19.
- Zinc and vitamin C are other nutrients important to the immune response, as well as magnesium, selenium and several other nutrients
- Other steps that can help support the body’s immune response include eating healthy (also decreasing carb and sugar intake), decreasing stress (which directly weakens immune system), increasing sleep, heating up the body (such as by taking frequent hot showers or baths, layers at night to help sweat and speed up recovery) – and even getting some sunlight or other UVB exposure

What does the Research Say about Vitamin D & COVID-19?
It’s TIME to start saving lives! If you can help PREVENT the majority of the death, it’s time! What’s it costing you/us not to take action NOW?
There is much published research that supports a clear link between vitamin D and COVID-19 showing that higher vitamin D levels are related to:
a decreased risk of testing positive for COVID-19
increased viral SARS-CoV-2 RNA clearance
better clinical outcomes among patients with COVID-19
decreased risk of death due to COVID-19
Be sure to educate yourself on the benefits and importance of vitamin D for immune health, and take steps to ensure you and your loved ones are getting enough.
