In this blog series we are taking a look at the characteristics of the over 13,000 GrassrootsHealth participants worldwide. In earlier posts we showed the demographics and smoking and alcohol use within the GrassrootsHealth cohort as well as where participants are located around the world. Today, we’ll look at body mass index (BMI) and physical activity among GrassrootsHealth adult participants.
Within the GrassrootsHealth cohort, the average BMI is 24 for those aged 18 years and older. The chart below shows the percent of participants for each BMI category, with approximately half (53%) in the normal weight category, roughly a third (29%) in the overweight category, and 15% in the obese category.
On the health and lifestyle questionnaire, participants are asked about their typical level of physical activity for at least 20 minutes, 3 or more times per week. The chart below shows the percent of participants for each physical activity category. As participants can select more than one activity level, the most strenuous level selected is shown here. A vast majority of participants (92%) engage in at least mild physical activity.

How can I track my nutrient intake and levels over time?
To help you track your supplement use and nutrient levels, GrassrootsHealth has created an online tracking system called myData-myAnswers. For each specific supplement, you can track what days you take it, how much, and many other details. This will help you know your true supplemental intake and what patterns of use work for you to reach and maintain optimum nutrient levels. Check it out today!
