Vitamin D doses video reaches almost 673,400 views in just 15 days, reviews safety of higher doses of vitamin D and calls to move evidence-based vitamin D research into practice

Key Points

  • A study by Dr. Patrick McCullough demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of vitamin D supplementation at 5000 IU per day or 10,000 IU per day for 12 months or longer, as well as doses ranging from 20,000 to 60,000 IU per day
  • What can you do to help address the following problems: Why is it that most health practitioners and individuals aren’t fully aware of the benefits of vitamin D, the physiological doses necessary to support optimal vitamin D levels, or the levels necessary to support optimal functioning within each system of the body?
  • Dr. McCullough changed his career path when he “realized that there is a health care crisis occurring because of vitamin D deficiency, and not much is being done about it”

A video discussing current vitamin D dosing guidelines and the safety of higher vitamin D doses, posted on May 15th, 2023 by Dr. John Campbell, reached almost 673,400 views in just 15 days. In this video, Dr. Campbell reviewed a publication by Dr. Patrick McCullough, an advisory board member of GrassrootsHealth, whose study demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of vitamin D supplementation at 5000 IU per day or 10,000 IU per day for 12 months or longer, as well as doses ranging from 20,000 to 60,000 IU per day, which were used in individual cases for patients with psoriasis, asthma, and skin cancer.

Dr. Campbell took this review a step further by asking the same question GrassrootsHealth has been proposing since its founding in 2007, “Why aren’t authorities keeping up with the evidence?” Why is it that most health practitioners and individuals aren’t fully aware of the benefits of vitamin D, the physiological doses necessary to support optimal vitamin D levels, or the levels necessary to support optimal functioning within each system of the body?

We may have several answers to these questions, but what can we all do together solve this problem? Let us know what you think needs to be done, or how you might be able to help, by emailing Jen (@grassrootshealth.org) today!

GrassrootsHealth previously reviewed the same paper in a post titled “No Toxicity Seen with 5,000 to 50,000 IU Vitamin D per Day” – read it to get even more details about the study.

Sending Much Appreciation to Our Vitamin D Researchers and Scientists

We would like to take this opportunity to extend a huge THANK YOU to the researchers and scientists who have dedicated their time, energy, finances, and passion to the progression of vitamin D research, and to those who are working tirelessly to Move Research into Practice.

As Dr. McCullough recently stated,

“After I read Dr. Holick’s 2007 review in the New England Journal of Medicine early in 2009, I realized that there is a health care crisis occurring because of vitamin D deficiency, and not much is being done about it. It caused my career path to take a sudden turn from coronary artery disease prevention, to trying to end all the needless suffering being caused by vitamin D deficiency.”

Let Us Know How You Can Help

How can we work together to move vitamin D research into practice? Let us know what you think needs to be done, or how you might be able to help, by emailing Jen (@grassrootshealth.org) today.

Are You and Your Loved Ones Getting Enough Vitamin D?

The only way to know is to test your levels! Testing versus blind supplementation is essential to know for sure if what you are taking is the right amount for you. Once you test your vitamin D (and other levels) to know where you are NOW, you can account for any upcoming changes in lifestyle over the coming months and adjust your intake to reach (or maintain) your targets.

Measure your:

  • Vitamin D
  • Magnesium PLUS Elements
  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids
  • hsCRP
  • HbA1c
  • TSH
  • Type 1 Diabetes Autoantibodies

Did you know that each of the above can be measured at home using a simple blood spot test? As part of our ongoing research project, you can order your home blood spot test kit to get your levels, followed by education and steps to take to help you reach your optimal target levels. Start by enrolling and ordering your kit to measure each of the above important markers, and make sure you are getting enough of each to support better mood and wellbeing!

Create your custom home test kit today. Take steps to improve the status of each of these measurements to benefit your overall health. With measurement you can then determine how much is needed and steps to achieve your goals.  You can also track your own intakes, symptoms and results to see what works best for YOU.

How Can You Use this Information for YOUR Health?

Having and maintaining healthy vitamin D and other nutrient levels can help improve your health now and for your future. Measuring is the only way to make sure you are getting enough!

STEP 1 Order your at-home blood spot test kit to measure vitamin D and other nutrients of concern to you, such as omega-3s, magnesium, essential and toxic elements (zinc, copper, selenium, lead, cadmium, mercury); include hsCRP as a marker of inflammation or HbA1c for blood sugar health

STEP 2 Answer the online questionnaire as part of the GrassrootsHealth study

STEP 3 Using our educational materials and tools (such as our dose calculators), assess your results to determine if you are in your desired target range or if actions should be taken to get there

STEP 4 After 3-6 months of implementing your changes, re-test to see if you have achieved your target level(s)
