Carole’s was one of the brightest lights in vitamin D advocacy; this November, join us in continuing the legacy she began by participating in the vitamin D advocacy movement
It is with hearts full of admiration, appreciation, love and sadness that we write today to inform our followers and supporters of the passing of Carole Baggerly, the founder of GrassrootsHealth, this past Saturday, October 26th.
As many of you know, it was after Carole’s diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in 2005 that she first learned of vitamin D and began the journey that would lead her to meet the scientists involved in formulating the Scientists’ Call to D*action, followed by the launch of GrassrootsHealth and the Vitamin D*action project, an endeavor of hers that would continue through the next two decades. Carole and her husband Leo traveled across the United States and Canada to meet with top vitamin D researchers, to really dig into what vitamin D is, how it works, and how many people could benefit from knowing about it, and most importantly, knowing what to DO about it (hence, Vitamin D*Action). She asked for a sense of urgency to get the word out to Move Vitamin D Research into Practice and found a group of scientists to step up and join her.
Today, the first of November, marks the beginning of this year’s Vitamin D Awareness Month, and tomorrow, November 2nd, is World Vitamin D Day. These events were founded to support this mission of moving vitamin D research into practice by spreading the message of the Scientists’ Call to D*action, which offers the solution for ending the world-wide vitamin D deficiency epidemic. The goal is for each individual to achieve and maintain a serum 25(OH)D level of 40-60 ng/ml (100-150 nmol/L), or higher for certain conditions, through personalized supplementation and sensible sunshine exposure; doing so is a safe, easy, and inexpensive way to help prevent disease, improve overall health, and significantly reduce healthcare costs.
November is a time to shine the light even brighter on vitamin D research, educating the public not just on the health benefits of vitamin D, but most importantly on the evidence-based actions for everyone to take to achieve healthy vitamin D levels.
Carole was the world’s leading pioneer for moving vitamin D research and knowledge from the minds of the scientists into the hands of the public; hers was one of the brightest lights in vitamin D advocacy.
This November, join us in continuing the legacy Carole began by participating in the vitamin D advocacy movement. You can add your light to vitamin D*action by sharing the knowledge you have gained about vitamin D, from Carole, GrassrootsHealth, or others, and empowering those around you to make informed decisions and to take action to address vitamin D for their health and the health of their loved ones. You can also contribute financially to the ongoing efforts of GrassrootsHealth.
Carole’s light will continue to shine through the activities of GrassrootsHealth and those who have been inspired to carry the vitamin D torch. We invite you to share your stories and tributes for Carole by emailing them to Jen Aliano, Director of GrassrootsHealth, at [email protected].
Carole Baggerly was an unstoppable force, a person of inspirational influence, full of passion and drive. Fueled by her desire to awaken the public to the abundance of research demonstrating the many health effects of vitamin D, research that could make a huge difference in the health and wellbeing of others by just a few simple actions, Carole shined her ever-bright light onto the lives of many around the globe.
Her positive spirit and passion for living a full and healthy life will be greatly missed.
** This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine!**
Onwards and on, to you Carole!
