Help Us Advance Vitamin D Research and Public Health Awareness

As the year comes to a close, we invite you to join us in making a difference by supporting GrassrootsHealth. Your end-of-year donation will help us continue to provide reliable, evidence-based information about vitamin D and other nutrients, ensuring everyone has access to the knowledge they need to live healthier lives.

Did you know that only 1.7% of healthcare providers are appropriately trained to diagnose and manage vitamin D deficiency? Confusion about measuring and managing vitamin D levels is widespread across all provider types. Recent guideline updates have only added to this challenge, leaving a critical gap in public understanding and healthcare practices.

GrassrootsHealth is committed to addressing this gap. We focus on translating the best available research into actionable tools and educational resources for individuals and practitioners alike. Over the past year, we’ve made significant strides:

  • Countering misinformation: We directly addressed misleading claims about vitamin D, such as those in a Scientific American article early this year (read our response here).
  • Expanding our call to action: We updated our Scientists’ Call to D*action, first issued in 2008, to include an expanded group of scientists and experts.
  • Fostering collaboration: In September, we hosted the 2024 International Virtual Vitamin D Forum & Expert Panel Discussion, bringing together global experts to share the latest insights.
  • Generating high-quality content: Throughout the year we released newly recorded interviews with vitamin D scientists and experts, presentations on key topics, and reviews of the latest research.

Despite the overwhelming evidence of vitamin D’s importance, research funding for nutrients remains scarce, as the focus often shifts to pharmaceuticals. This makes your support more critical than ever.

Your donation to GrassrootsHealth today can positively impact millions of lives. Together, we can:

  • Promote accurate, accessible information about vitamin D and other nutrients.
  • Empower individuals to take charge of their health.
  • Provide healthcare practitioners with the tools they need to support their patients effectively.

Make your end-of-year donation today and join us in creating healthier communities!

How Has GrassrootsHealth Impacted the Lives of Others?

We encourage you to take a moment to read some of the testimonials and stories others have shared with us…

Thank you!

I am so pleased with the encouragement I have received from GrassrootsHealth over the years, providing feedback on my Vitamin D levels. Now I am 85 and in better health than many of my contemporaries and even younger friends.

When I started with GrassrootsHealth in 2013, I was living in San Diego, and it was easy to get Vitamin D just by going outdoors. But in 2016 we moved to Iowa, where the seasons sometimes make it difficult to be outdoors. I do rely on the results of my Vitamin D tests in order to determine how much Vitamin D I should consume by way of capsules. I discovered that if I take 5000 IU daily, that can be too much!

I’m happy to share the various dimensions of my diet, lifestyle, etc. for GrassrootsHealth to factor in, among many other participants’ data, to gain insight into the relationship between Vitamin D levels and resistance to cancer.

Keep Up the Good Work!… with a Charitable Contribution

I am impressed by the important work that you are doing. Vitamin D is not just another nutrient, it is so essential that the body photosynthesizes it.

I stumbled across Vitamin D in 2009, reading an article in Scientific American. I was shocked that I had not heard about this before, given the strength of the scientific evidence.

I take 2000 IU per day, and also go out in the midday sun, and my health has improved as I’ve gotten older (I’m 70). In particular, my chronic gum disease completely disappeared. (This effect is not widely known, but is in the literature.) I would suggest that the unifying aspect to Vitamin D action is to promote cellular adhesion. Tight epithelial layers reduce metastasis (cancer), blood-vessel leakage (dementia), and invasion by microbes (lung diseases and even gum disease).

Keep up the good work!

Thanks, from a Long-Time Participant

For fifteen years I’ve been a participant with GrassrootsHealth. Initially I hoped (simply) for a test but came to a place of opening up to the importance of joining this study. I am very glad I pursued this. It’s a community that I continue to develop trust in its offerings and its total commitment to broaden its reach to many others, to counter the shockingly false/misleading/unhelpful information that pervades our public space, and inspire us to see the huge implications to an individual and a community of low vitamin D levels. My Vitamin D level was less than 30 ng/ml and I had a fairly steady incidence of colds which now seem to be a thing of the past…

How Can You Use this Information for YOUR Health?

Having and maintaining healthy vitamin D and other nutrient levels can help improve your health now and for your future. Measuring is the only way to make sure you are getting enough!

STEP 1 Order your at-home blood spot test kit to measure vitamin D and other nutrients of concern to you, such as omega-3s, magnesium, essential and toxic elements (zinc, copper, selenium, lead, cadmium, mercury); include hsCRP as a marker of inflammation or HbA1c for blood sugar health

STEP 2 Answer the online questionnaire as part of the GrassrootsHealth study

STEP 3 Using our educational materials and tools (such as our dose calculators), assess your results to determine if you are in your desired target range or if actions should be taken to get there

STEP 4 After 3-6 months of implementing your changes, re-test to see if you have achieved your target level(s)
