Vitamin D supplements come in a variety of types including liquid-filled capsules, powder-filled capsules, pills, and drops or sprays. On the GrassrootsHealth health and lifestyle questionnaire, questions about which vitamin D supplements participants used were added in 2017. The chart below shows the percent of participants taking each vitamin D supplement type. This includes vitamin D-specific supplements and supplements containing vitamin D, such as a multi-vitamin. For those taking more than one supplement type, they are counted in more than one category.
The most commonly used vitamin D supplement types among GrassrootsHealth participants is liquid-filled capsules (44%), followed by pills (36%), powder or powder-filled capsules (28%) and liquids such as drops or sprays (22%). Approximately one-third (31%) use more than one type of vitamin D supplement.
