GrassrootsHealth Founder Carole Baggerly hails Margaret I. Cuomo M.D.’s new book as a “wake-up call” for the medical community and joins call for big pharma, research institutions and the federal government to embrace prevention and to end this disease with what is known now.

ENCINITAS, CA, October 2, 2012 – GrassrootsHealth founder and Vitamin D advocate Carole Baggerly has endorsed Margaret I. Cuomo, M.D.’s new book “A World Without Cancer,” citing its call for emphasis on cancer prevention rather than treatment a “wake-up call for the medical community.”

“I was delighted to see Dr. Cuomo’s recommendations for this focus on prevention,” Baggerly said. “At GrassrootsHealth, we agree that it is well past time for the big pharma, research institutions and the federal government to make use of the vast amount of available data and begin moving towards a model that places an emphasis on cancer prevention, rather than just cancer treatment.”

“We are definitely partners in the goal with our 1000’s of vitamin D study participants,” Baggerly added. “Our experience has indicated that having a core of like-focused scientists, or ‘Team Science,’ is critical to maintaining the direction of the organization.  In addition, having a ‘Common Database’ of information that can be shared by other researchers can expand the results and implementation with everyone.  It was a delight to see her chapter on Vitamin D specifically and, of course, her section on ‘Taking Action Now’ which was essentially about GrassrootsHealth activities.”

GrassrootsHealth is running an international project to provide testing to individuals and is tracking all health outcomes to demonstrate the range of action of vitamin D.  Based on available evidence, individuals need to get their vitamin D serum levels tested and then get their levels to the target range of at least 40-60 ng/ml (100-150 nmol/L).

In the book, which is scheduled to be released on October 2, 2012 by Rodale Books, Cuomo calls for new strategies in waging war on cancer, a disease that claims more than 1,500 people per day and calls on major stakeholders to shift the system’s emphasis from treatment to prevention.
